Cybersecurity Risk Management and the New Cyber Framework from NIST

What is cybersecurity risk management (CRM) and why should you care? Some organizations already use CRM, either because of regulatory or customer requirements. In the near future, many more will use CRM. For example, the DoD requires all new defense contracts to protect data and networks with the NIST Risk Management Framework (RMF). And, there is a new “voluntary” NIST Cyber Framework (CF) for 16 critical infrastructures, that likely will become a new standard for trade associations, for state IT systems, for qualifying for cyber insurance, and maybe for all other industries. In this presentation, we review what is CRM and CF? How does CRM differ for the IT department versus the enterprise? What are the current CRM frameworks, and how do they differ from CF? What tools are available for a CF deployment and maintenance? And how can Hawai’i work together to address cybersecurity needs?
