The Village Idiot and your Organization

A hot topic in the news lately is the leaking of classified or sensitive information from employees. This kind of activity comes from a threat called the Insider Threat who exploits the vulnerability of trust. Insider Threats pose some of the biggest challenges to protecting your organization’s intellectual property and sensitive information. In this talk, we will explore the Insider Threat and some simple mechanisms that can be put in place to aide in preventing and detecting potential insider threat activity.


Michael Herr is a Systems Security Engineer and Senior Security Analyst with Referentia Systems, Incorporated. He is responsible for developing secure solutions for both the public and private sector. He has been in the IT industry for over 16 years with the past 9 years focusing on information security. He has a wide range of experience, to include intrusion detection systems, firewalls, vulnerability assessments and management, NIST Risk Management Framework and information assurance management. He holds a Masters Degree in Computer, Information, and Network Security from DePaul University. He also has CISSP, C|EH, CASP, and Network+ certifications.
